Dr Vivek Akkera is a general paediatrician with over seventeen years of experience in various aspects and subspecialities in Paediatrics and Neonatology. For over a decade now, Dr Akkera has worked both in Neonatology and General Pediatrics at both Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and Children’s Hospital Westmead Network Hospitals. He has a vast experience of working as a neonatal and paediatric consultant in India and has trained in UK before settling here in Australia.

Dr Akkera is passionate about creating structured and individualised management plans to children and their families in a positive and nurturing way.

Dr Akkera provides consultations at Norwest, North Strathfield and Westmead

The person behind the doctor

Dr Akkera has enjoyed a good cricketing career. He enjoys looking after his garden, household work and has always enjoyed teaching.

Dr Akkera has special interest in:

  • Newborn care and follow up of premature infants and has done extensive research and work in neonates.
  • Is competent in diagnosing and managing ADHD and Autism. He has research in autism.
  • Has a keen interest in the early identification of developmental and behavioral concerns.
  • Has been extensively involved in research and audit through out his career.
  • Enjoys managing feeding, nutrition and sleep issues in infants and older children.
  • Enjoys all clinical aspects of general paediatrics from birth to 16 years of age.
  • Is up to date with assessment training tools – ADOS-II (Autism Diagnostic and Observation Schedule) and Bayley-4 (Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development, 4th Edition)
  • He likes to be up to date with current paediatrics, both in UK and USA.

Qualifications and experience

Bachelor Science (Medicine), Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery ( MBBS) – Dr Akkera went through a competitive process of entering medical school and stood as one of the top performing outgoing graduates.

MD Paediatrics – This is equivalent of FRACP in India and completed his training in India after which he worked as a paediatric and neonatal consultant for nearly four years in India. Neonatal training in Leicester, United Kingdom

FRACP – in General Paediatrics

Has worked as a consultant in Westmead Childrens’ Hospital, Liverpool Public and Liverpool Private Hospital
