Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Vaccine

The Boostrix or whooping cough vaccine is recommended for all pregnant women after 28 weeks to provide protection for the newborn against whooping cough, which can lead to a very serious and potentially life threatening respiratory infection. It is safe in pregnancy and protects the mother as well as the baby by mother’s antibodies passing through the placenta. This vaccine is also funded by the National Immunisation Program and is available from most GPs.
