Dr Yogesh A Nikam is a Specialist Gynaecologist and Advanced Pelvic Surgeon with a particular focus on the management of complex pelvic conditions, including endometriosis, pelvic pain and advanced gynaecological surgery.
He believes that every woman’s experience of health and illness is unique. His holistic approach centres on listening carefully to patients, understanding their individual concerns, and tailoring treatment plans that combine evidence-based medicine with thoughtful, personalised care.
Dr Nikam has extensive expertise in advanced minimally invasive surgery, including robotic-assisted surgery and complex laparoscopic procedures. His practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic pain, fibroids, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Where possible, he prioritises minimally invasive approaches that aim to reduce recovery time and improve long-term outcomes.
He holds the highest level of surgical accreditation in advanced gynaecological laparoscopy (RANZCOG Level 6) and has undertaken advanced surgical training in Australia and internationally, including Germany, Singapore and India.
Dr Nikam works closely with a multidisciplinary network of specialists to provide comprehensive care for women with complex pelvic conditions.

Outside of medicine, Yogesh enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Family life is central to his world, and he values the balance that it brings to his professional life.

Complex Pelvic Surgery
Management of advanced pelvic disease requiring multidisciplinary collaboration, including involvement of colorectal, urological and pelvic floor specialists when required.
Robotic Surgery Proctorship & Surgical Mentorship
Dr Nikam is an experienced robotic surgery proctor, mentoring and supervising surgeons in advanced robotic gynaecological procedures both nationally and internationally. He is actively involved in the safe introduction and development of robotic surgery programs and advanced minimally invasive techniques.
Surgical Training & Mentorship
Member of Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery (SWAPS) and a RANZCOG-accredited training supervisor, actively involved in fellowship training and mentoring the next generation of minimally invasive gynaecological surgeons.
He is the director of the Robotic Surgery Fellowship training program at Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN).
Academic & Research Contributions
Dr Nikam is actively involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors and contributes to research in advanced gynaecological surgery. Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG)
This is the specialist qualification required to practise as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Australia and New Zealand. Dr Nikam completed his specialist training at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals, gaining extensive experience in the full spectrum of women’s health before undertaking further advanced surgical training.
Advanced Fellowships in Gynaecological Surgery
Following specialist training, Dr Nikam undertook several Sub-specialist qualifications & advanced fellowships in minimally invasive and laparoscopic gynaecological surgery at leading centres in Australia and internationally. These include:

• Diploma in Reproductive Medicine & Advanced Endoscopic Surgery – Germany
• Clinical Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery – Singapore
• Diploma in Gynaecological Endoscopy (BEAMS) – India
These fellowships represent several additional years of focused surgical training, allowing Dr Nikam to develop expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, particularly in the treatment of complex pelvic conditions such as endometriosis.
Master of Surgery (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) – This is a specialist training qualification. Dr Nikam completed his Master of Surgery in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in India, an intensive three-year specialist residency program at a high-volume teaching hospital performing approximately 10,000–12,000 deliveries per year. This training provided a strong clinical and surgical foundation in women’s health.
Bachelor of Science (Medicine), Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery – Dr Nikam completed his medical degree at Pune University, India, where he ranked 1st in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in his medical college and 2nd in the state university.
