Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) & Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)
A/Professor Chan is able to offer a full range of the latest advances in medical technology to help improve IVF success rates, decrease miscarriage rates and prevent transmission of genetic diseases to your offspring.
Genetic Disorders
PGD was initially developed to help couples with a family history of genetic disorders to prevent passing on these diseases to their children. A/Professor Chan works closely with Monash IVF and Westmead Fertility Centre with the Genetics department at Westmead and Westmead Children’s Hospital to perform IVF in a multi-disciplinary team approach to give you the best results.
Recurrent Miscarriage
For couples experiencing recurrent miscarriage, it can be an extremely stressful time. One of the main causes of recurrent miscarriage is genetic abnormalities in the embryo. It is now possible to screen your embryos using PGS technology which may help reduce your chances of further miscarriage.
Routine IVF
Due to recent advances in genetic science, it is becoming more common to offer routine genetic screening of the embryos. Using technology such as Next Generation Sequencing, you may achieve an increase in the success rates with IVF and decreased miscarriage rates, leading to a faster and potentially more cost effective way of having a healthy baby through IVF.
Pre-Conception Genetic Screening of parents who are otherwise healthy, but are unknowingly carriers of genetic diseases is also available. If both parents are found to be carriers, PGD can be offered to exclude transmission to your children.
