IVF & ICSI

In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) & Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

IVF is an assisted conception technique which helps multiply your chances of pregnancy by the use of medications to stimulate your ovaries to create multiple follicles and retrieve multiple eggs over a short period of time instead of releasing only 1 egg per month.

Modern day IVF cycle regimens usually take place within 1 period cycle, with the injection phase lasting approximately 8 to 12 days.

There are multiple methods to perform an IVF cycle, but in general consists of:

  1. Controlled Ovarian Stimulation with Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
  2. Monitoring with ultrasound and blood hormone levels
  3. A “trigger” injection to help mature the follicles
  4. Egg collection procedure
  5. Sperm collection and insemination
  6. Embryo culture to ensure each embryo is provided the optimal nutrients and environment to maximise its growth potential
  7. Embryo transfer – the best embryo is selected and transferred
  8. Luteal Phase Support – hormonal support is required to support the embryo to implant and develop into a successful pregnancy
  9. Freezing embryos – excess embryos of sufficient quality are frozen.

Ideally, you can complete your family in 1 IVF cycle – a successful fresh embryo transfer followed by successful frozen embryo transfers when you want to have subsequent children.
